Core Area 1 - Biological Sciences

Exploring the Molecular Mechanisms, Function, and Evolution of Microbial Communities

Microbial communities are complex, dynamic, and serve critical roles in animal, plant, and environmental health. Our ability to effectively maintain or manipulate microbial communities in these settings is severely constrained by our limited understanding of the mechanisms underlying interactions between members of different microbial lineages. Graduate research activities within Core Area 1 will focus on elucidating the genetic, molecular, cellular, and physiological mechanisms that govern interactions between microbes.
